National SBDC Award 2019
At this year's Small Business Development Center conference held at the Ritz-Carlton & JW Marriott in Orlando GPFINC was presented with the Florida Student Project of the Year Award, which was the accumulation of a year's worth of work and study. Starting in 2018 GPFINC was involved in a student project, with the SBDC at USF, that explored the benefits and risks of exporting our products and services to other countries. The students worked together in a class project for their Masters’ program in Business Development. The focus of the project was to explore a global marketplace for our products. They analyzed our current business practices and procedures as well as formulated a report to show us our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, known as a SWOT report. In this report they analyzed every facet of our company and reported on things that were working well and identified areas we could improve. The whole process took just under a year. Many of the suggestions the students made were implemented or are in the process of being implemented. The students offered unique perspectives and brought ideas to our attention that we had not considered.
In early December of last year when the students had finished their evaluation and report, they invited Tony to the University of Tampa for their presentation. In May of 2019, Tony was invited to Tampa again, but this time he received an award at the division level from SBDC at USF. Then in June Tony was invited to the State Conference in Orlando, where he was presented with an award for his participation, at the state level. Congratulations to the Business students who worked so hard on this project and thank you to the SBDC for setting up this opportunity. We are grateful for the chance to partner with SBDC to further student education and community development.
